Hotel Prices Fall in Helsinki
Prices of hotel rooms have fallen sharply in the Finnish capital this year.
Lodging rates have come down in other large cities as well, but in Helsinki the fall was steeper than in the rest of the country. The average price for a night in a hotel room during the first six months of this year was 99 euros, down from 122 euros at the same time last year.
The figures show that Helsinki was a cheaper place to stay than the largest inland city, Tampere.
Helsinki also has some of the cheapest hotel prices in the Nordic countries. The most expensive was Bergen, Norway, where the average price for a room was 130 euros a night.
Prices have come down in all Nordic capitals. The decline was the steepest in Copenhagen and Oslo.
The figures are based on reservations made for double rooms on the Hotels.com website, involving a total of 78,000 establishments.
